
How to Make or Buy a Smurfette Costume
Anybody who grew up in the 80’s or even 90’s will know exactly who the Smurfs were. Fun, blue creatures, invented by the Dutch in the late 1950’s and brought to the USA for our enjoyment.
So, who wouldn’t want to dress up in a Smurfette costume? Whether it is for Halloween, a dress-up party, or perhaps just for fun, this can bring a great, fun blast from the past, which we all need every once in a while.
You can purchase a full Smurfette costume, or you can choose to make one yourself. The choice is yours. Buying is obiously much easier. If you are making it, then you should begin early to make sure you have everything that you need before the date of your party. If using blue skin dye (which many of these costumes do) try it on a hidden place on your body prior to using it out in public. You may be allergic to it and this is the best way to find out.
To make your own Smurfette costume, you will want to start out buying blue skin dye, or blue make up. Decide whether you will use a blue bodysuit for most of your body, and just paint your face blue, or if you want to paint your whole body (arms and legs) blue. Make sure you buy enough for what you need.
Next you need to make a Smurf hat. Take white fabric, terry cloth or plush works well, trace out a curved cone which will fit your head, and sew it together ans wear!
You will also need a basic white dress. Wear this with big black shoes. Lastly, add a blue button tail to your dress. There you have it, a quick, easy Smurfette costume!
